Hanging Object Test 2
Wednesday 4th May 2016
After collecting the wooden planks I decided to further test
the appearance of the installation, I did this by adding the wooden planks to
the clothes line I had used for the previous test.
The wooden planks were given to me by my brother (as he’s a
carpenter) which had come from an old fence. Therefore the wood was light and
had holes where the nails used to be. The wood was also damaged due to age and
weather which gave it a worn look which we want. However due to this we could
not use this to create the grid to support the weight of the structure as this
would pose the risk of the wood breaking and potentially harming someone.
I used the holes to loop fishing line through them and hung
them with the books and paper and had already hung. Altogether it looks much
better than it did and creates a better representation of what the installation
will look like.
As we are incorporating lights as part of the installation,
I experimented what the installation would look like if it were illuminated
externally and how the shadows would appear. I moved the lamp to a number of
different positions, taking images that I can share with the rest of the group
for their opinions and ideas. I also created a few short videos of the tests to
see how they would appear at different angles, and one video shows how the
shadows would appear with a moving light source.
With these tests we can further discuss as a group the practicalities of the installation and how we want the structure to appear.
