MMU Futures: Successful Interviews Workshop
Friday 6th May 2016
Another MMU Futures workshop, this time discussing what it
takes to be a successful candidate for a job interview. I took notes throughout
the session which can be viewed below. I have attended a number of interviews
in the past and I felt that this session would be beneficial because I want to
gain the knowledge needed to make myself stand out from the competition,
especially in the creative industry.
We were told about the different types of interviews there
are including video, group, panel and many more. Recently video interviews have
become more popular with employers; therefore I must anticipate this during
future applications and use my time now to practice.
I feel that I lack in presentation and confidence, this is
because I feel that I do not present myself effectively as I become extremely
nervous before an interview and stutter as a speak and my mind becomes blank.
This is frustrating because I feel that
cannot express my full potential as I suffer from these nerves, whereas
I believe I am polite and acknowledge dress codes. Overall I believe I can
behave in a professional and friendly manner as it is natural; however I feel
that I must improve my confidence and present myself at an interview rather
than being a wall-flower.
Preparation and a knowledge of the company will also help my
confidence, however I believe the main reason are my nerves and how I become
submissive during an interview. This can be achieved through experience and
time, I will challenge myself by putting myself in situations and manage my
nerves. I will continue to attend these workshops to build my knowledge of the
professional world and develop an understanding on how to present myself
professionally.
